Do you have people around you who can’t see how big your life is going to be? Are you better off being prepared or perfect? And do you get stuck in the regret loop—instead of learning from your mistakes, do you go from self-reflection to self-flogging? In this episode of Mentoring Moments podcast, we’ve got stories to help you answer those questions and more
Sherry Paul is a private wealth advisor and senior portfolio manager at UBS Private Wealth Management. She helps people in moments of change, those times when life interrupts. She's on the 2017 Forbes Top 200 Women Wealth Advisors, leads one of a few all-female teams in the financial services industry and her team has a philanthropic focus on financial literacy education for women and girls. With a degree in philosophy, Paul didn’t graduate from college planning to get a job in the financial world. She started out working for nonprofit organizations and that’s where she saw firsthand how powerful money can be when we put it to good use.
Paul shares a very personal story about her early career-building years when a woman in HR at a prestigious firm told her that she wasn’t qualified and she was wasting her time applying for the job. But Paul really wanted the job so she got “professionally persistent,” sidestepped the HR person and got the job. Take a listen to hear the whole story and what happened next!
One of my favorite quotes from Paul:
You will have people around you who can’t see how big your life is going to be. You have to sidestep them
